Fell in love with English,fell in love with a life.Andtogether into a new world。
A:Good afternoon,everyone。
B:哦,我還真忘了,Halloween辭典解釋為 “The eve of All Saints'Day”,中文譯作:萬圣節(jié)之夜。
Halloween originated as a celebration connected with evil spirits. Witches flying on broomsticks with ghosts, goblins and skeletons have all evolved as symbols of Halloween. Bats, owls and other nocturnal animals are also popular symbols of Halloween. They were originally feared because people believed that these creatures could communicate with the spirits of the dead.
A:Black is one of the traditional Halloween colors, probably because Halloween festivals and traditions took place at night. 《Stay the night》.
播放《Stay the night》
Pumpkins are also a symbol of Halloween. The pumpkin is an orange-colored squash, and orange has become the other traditional Halloween color. Carving pumpkins into jack- o'-lanterns is a Halloween custom also dating back to Ireland. A legend grew up about a man named Jack who was so stingy that he was not allowed into heaven when he died, because he was a miser. He couldn't enter hell either because he had played jokes on the devil. As a result, Jack had to walk on the earth with his lantern until Judgement Day. So Jack and his lantern became the symbol of a lost or damned soul.
B:To scare these souls away on Halloween, the Irish people carved scary faces out of turnips, beets or potatoes representing "Jack of the Lantern," or Jack-o-lantern. When the Irish brought their customs to the United States, they carved faces on pumpkins because in the autumn they were more plentiful than turnips. Today jack-o-lanterns in the windows of a house on Halloween night let costumed children know that there are goodies waiting if they knock and say "Trick or Treat!"
There was a king who loved Halloween。He waited each year for this scary scene。He sneaked out to hang on his door。Black bats and witches and spooks galore。The midnight hour was his favorite time。With monsters covering snakes with slime。As twelve o'clock chimed through the stars。He opened up his snickers bars.。
Black cats are also symbols of Halloween and have religious origins as well. Black cats were considered to be reincarnated beings with the ability to divine the future. During the Middle Ages it was believed that witches could turn themselves into black cats. Thus when such a cat was seen, it was considered to be a witch in disguise. All these are popular trick-or-treat costumes and decorations for greeting cards and windows.
請(qǐng)聽下面這首歌來自REM的《Imitation of Life》
播放《Imitation of Life》
B:我想到了《飛屋環(huán)游記》,印象尤為深刻的是里面一句很深刻的臺(tái)詞“Happiness is not about being immortal nor having food or rights in one's hand. It's about having each tiny wish come true, or having something to eat when you are hungry or having someone's love when you need love.”
A:沒錯(cuò),每個(gè)人都有自己的位置,享受別人給的愛,努力去愛別人,“I know someone in the world is waiting for me, although I've no idea of who he is. But I feel happy every day for this.”
就像《剪刀手愛德華》中的那句臺(tái)詞一樣“I love you not for who you are, but for who I am with you.”
B:“Don't forget the things you once you owned. Treasure the things you can't get. Don't give up the things that belong to you and keep those lost things in memory.”
Just for today I will be happy. This assumes to be true what Abraham Lincoln said, that “Most folks are as happy as they make up their minds to be.”
“Just for today I will have a program, I may not follow it exactly, but I will have it. I will save myself from two pests: hurry and indecision.Just for today I will have a quiet half hour all by myself and relax. During this half hour, sometime, I will try to get a better perspective of my life.Just for today I will be unafraid. Especially I will not be afraid to enjoy what is beautiful, and to believe that as I give to the world, so the world will give to me.”
I got a mid-day crisis.
Describing someone who gives a bad first impression but is actually a good person. Someone who doesn't appear to be competent, yet is extremely capable at what he/she does.
When there is so much work piled on your desk, movement from under it is nearly impossible.
A:我為大家介紹的是這一句”Happy Late Year“,常常用在過年后一個(gè)星期,這時(shí)候拜年的時(shí)候就不是new year了,是late year。When people are still saying Happy New Year, even though it's already a week after the new year.
As opposed to a blind date, where you have no idea what the other person looks like, a nearsighted date is one where you've seen a photo or chatted via web before meeting in person.
“To call it a day"at work so you can go party.”,就是說下班之后去派對(duì)狂歡,其中“clock out”即打卡下班,也可以說punch out,若將“work”換做“class”就是“下課后去玩”。
When one is in adesperate need for a siesta because they become extremely tired in the afternoon and coffee isn't cutting it any longer.
A:Ok,that's for today's program,thank you for step in.Good bye.
B:Bye bye.
