The Bear and the Two Travelers朋友與熊
TWO MEN were traveling together, when a Bear suddenly met them on their path. One of them climbed up quickly into a tree and concealed himself in the branches. The other, seeing that he must be a ttacked, fell flat on the ground, and when the Bear came up and felt him with his snout, and smelt him all over, he held his breath, and feigned the appearance of death as much as he could.The Bear soon left him, for it is said he will not touch a dead body. When he was quite gone, the other Traveler descended from the tree, and jocularly inquired of his friend what it was the Bear had whispered in his ear. "He gave me this advice," his companion replied. "Never travel with a friend who deserts you at the approach of danger."
The lion and the mouse獅子與報(bào)恩的老鼠
When a lion was asleep, a little mouse began running up and down beside him. This soon wakened the lion. He was very angry, and caught the mouse in his paws.
“Forgive me, please.” cried the little mouse. “I may be able to help you someday.” The lion was tickled at these words.
He thought, “How could this little mouse help me?” However he lifted up his paws and let him go.
A few days later, the lion was caught in a trap.
The hunters wanted to take him alive to the king, so they tied him to a tree, and went away to look for a wagon.
Just then the little mouse passed by, and saw the sad lion.
He went up to him, and soon gnawed away the ropes. “Was I not right?” asked the little mouse.
獅子與報(bào)恩的老鼠
●獅子睡著了，有只老鼠在他的周圍爬上爬下，很快吵醒了獅子，獅子很生氣，一把抓住了老鼠。
●“饒了我吧，”老鼠請(qǐng)求說(shuō)，“也許有一天我能幫上你的忙呢�！豹{子覺(jué)得很好笑，他想：“這只小老鼠怎么能幫上我的忙？”但他還是抬起爪子放他走了。
●不久，獅子被陷阱困住了。獵人們想將活獅子獻(xiàn)給國(guó)王，就把他捆在一棵大樹上，然后去找馬車。
●這時(shí)，老鼠路過(guò)這里，看到了絕望中的獅子。他走過(guò)去，很快啃斷了繩索，說(shuō)：“我雖小，可是我也能幫上你的忙�！�
寓意: 有些朋友也許平時(shí)看似微不足道，但卻有可能在我們身處困境的時(shí)候提供巨大的幫助。
龜兔賽跑
The hare was once boasting of his speed before the other animals. “I have never been beaten,” he said, “when I run at full speed, no one is faster than me.”
The tortoise said quietly, “I will race with you.” “That is a good joke,” said the hare. “I could dance around you the whole way.”
The race started. The hare darted almost out of sight at once. He soon stopped and lay down to have a nap.
The tortoise plodded on and on. When the hare awoke from his nap, he saw the tortoise was near the finish line, and that he had lost the race.
●兔子向動(dòng)物們夸耀他的速度，“我從來(lái)沒(méi)有失敗過(guò)，”他說(shuō)，“當(dāng)我奔跑時(shí)，沒(méi)有人比我更快�！�
●烏龜平靜地說(shuō)：“我要與你比賽�！薄罢媸切υ�，我可以邊玩邊和你賽跑�！蓖米诱f(shuō)。
●比賽開始了，一眨眼工夫，兔子已經(jīng)跑得不見(jiàn)了蹤影，但是他覺(jué)得自己跑得快，對(duì)比賽掉以輕心，躺在路邊睡著了。
●烏龜慢騰騰地卻持續(xù)不停地走，當(dāng)兔子一覺(jué)醒來(lái)，他看到烏龜已經(jīng)快到終點(diǎn)線了。兔子輸了比賽。
寓意: 驕兵必?cái)�；只有持之以恒，才能�?shí)現(xiàn)目標(biāo)。
A Husbandman who had a quarrelsome family ,after having tried in vain to reconcile them by words ,thought he might more readily prevail by an example .So he called his sons and bid them lay a bundle of sticks before him .Then ,having tied them into a fagot, he told the lads ,one after the other ,to take it up and break it .They all tied ,but tried in vain .Then untying the fagot ,he gave them the sticks to break one by one .This they did with the greatest ease .Then said the father:"Thus you ,my sons ,as long as you remain united ,are a match for all you enemies ;but differ and separate ,and you are undone."
Union is strength.
一個(gè)農(nóng)夫，家庭不和睦，用言語(yǔ)勸告大家和好，總是無(wú)效，最后他想，用實(shí)際例子可能容易說(shuō)服他們。于是他把兒子都叫來(lái)，吩咐他們抱一捆火柴放在他的面前。他把火柴捆成一捆，接著叫這些孩子挨次拿起來(lái)折斷它，一個(gè)個(gè)都試過(guò)了，但都沒(méi)有折斷，接著他解了捆，一根一根地給他們折，他們都輕而易舉地折斷了。這時(shí)父親說(shuō)："孩子們，只要我們團(tuán)結(jié)一致，你們就能對(duì)付一切敵人；但是如果意見(jiàn)不合，各自東西，那么你們一定要失敗。"
團(tuán)結(jié)就是力量。
