Fostering Learner Autonomy in Chinese Senior High School English Language Teaching

Abstract

In China, the traditional model of foreign language teaching has fundamentally been the teacher-centered model of knowledge instilling, in which students as objects, are always in the position of passively receiving knowledge. Students have to follow what teachers teach. Therefore, they can not adequately bring their conscious activities into play. This model has been confining students imagination and creativity as well as the teaching quality. Therefore, teaching reform is definitely needed. Promoting and developing a new interactive education model between teachers and students, which is led by students’ self-motivation and teachers’ guidance, will be the urgent needs for teaching reform. In this thesis, the author first defines the term “l(fā)earner autonomy” and reviews the current relevant literature and research at home and abroad, then summarizes the factors that influence it. After that, the paper discusses the necessity and feasibility of developing learner autonomy in senior middle school English teaching and analysis the current situation in senior middle school English teaching. And lastly, the paper puts forwards some strategies to improve the learners’ autonomy abilities by enhancing their motivation and training their learning strategies.

摘  要

在中國(guó),傳統(tǒng)的外語(yǔ)教學(xué)模式長(zhǎng)久以來(lái)是以教師灌輸知識(shí)為中心的。而學(xué)生通常只是被動(dòng)的接收知識(shí)。學(xué)生必須要遵循老師所教的。因此,他們不能把自己的思想帶入到課堂活動(dòng)中。這種模式不僅限制了學(xué)生的想象力和創(chuàng)造力,也影響了教學(xué)質(zhì)量。因此,教育改革迫在眉睫。在師生之間發(fā)展1種由學(xué)生自我推動(dòng)和教師指導(dǎo)的新的互動(dòng)式的教學(xué)模式是教學(xué)改革的當(dāng)務(wù)之急。在這篇論文中,作者首先定義了自主學(xué)習(xí),回顧了1些國(guó)內(nèi)外相關(guān)的文獻(xiàn)和研究現(xiàn)狀,總結(jié)了影響自主學(xué)習(xí)的內(nèi)外因素;接著作者討論了當(dāng)前在中學(xué)英語(yǔ)教學(xué)中培養(yǎng)學(xué)生自主性的可行性和必行性,并分析了當(dāng)前中學(xué)英語(yǔ)教學(xué)中存在的問(wèn)題,最后作者提出:加強(qiáng)學(xué)生學(xué)習(xí)動(dòng)機(jī),訓(xùn)練學(xué)生的學(xué)習(xí)策略是促進(jìn)學(xué)生自主學(xué)習(xí)能力培養(yǎng)的有效途徑。
